The City’s Public Works Department is getting ready to join its counterparts across the country in recognizing National Public Works Week from May 16 to May 22.

Sponsored by the American Public Works Association every year since 1960, the event seeks to raise awareness about the importance of the role of Public Works in maintaining and improving the systems and services that support healthy, safe, and comfortable communities.

This year’s theme, “Stronger Together,” challenges the Public Works staff and the City of Pico Rivera residents to think about the role public works plays in creating a great place to live. By working together, the impact residents and public works professionals can have on their communities is magnified and results in accomplishing goals once thought unattainable.

To ensure that the quality of life meets the high expectations of the City’s residents, the Public Works Department oversees several aspects of the City’s infrastructure, including the engineering, maintenance, and operation of streets, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, parkways, medians, alleys, public parking lots, traffic signals, and traffic markings. The Department also manages facility maintenance, street sweeping, trash and urban forestry, and water system maintenance.

The City will be highlighting our Public Works team during the week of May 16 with pictures posted to our Social Media accounts.
