Project Update:
In a major milestone for the Durfee Avenue Grade Separation Project, Union Pacific Railroad shifted rail traffic from the temporary “shoofly” tracks to the permanent mainline tracks to the north. Trains began running on the newly installed mainline tracks after crews performed cut-over operations during two weekends in June. The temporary tracks that will
soon be removed were required in order to keep the railroad tracks and the trains fully operational during the construction of the new railroad bridge. With this phase of work complete, the contractor will next focus on the excavation on the south side of the railroad tracks and the construction of the retaining walls and roadway underpass. Project completion is currently scheduled for Summer 2022.
Starting June 15th, in collaboration with El Rancho Unified School District, bus transportation resumed for summer school students at North Park Academy of the Arts and South Ranchito Dual Language Academy to get them around the temporary road closure on Durfee Avenue. Four bus stops were designated to safely transport students to and from the north and south side of the tracks. The bus stops are located at Pico Park, Durfee Avenue and Canal Way, Durfee Avenue and West Boulevard, and South Ranchito Dual Language Academy.
