Full-Time Employee Benefits

The City of Pico Rivera provides comprehensive medical, dental and vision coverage plans for employees and their eligible dependents.  Full-Time employee benefit options include:

  • Medical Health Benefits or Cash in-lieu of a Medical Plan enrollment.  Currently, the City pays 100% of  the medical plan premium up to the Kaiser level.  Cash in-lieu of enrollment in a medical plan provides a monthly cash back benefit of 80% of the 2017 Kaiser rates.
  • Dental Insurance.  Two options to choose from: PPO and HMO.   The City pays 100% of the HMO plan premium, and up to a maximum of $47.72 for the PPO plan for family, $30.38 for two-party, and $15.88 for employee-only enrollment, per month.
  • Vision Insurance.  The City pays 100% of the vision insurance plan premiums.
  • City-paid group life insurance ($100,000 policy) and short-term and long-term disability insurance.
  • Holidays:  The City observes eleven (11) holidays per year.
  • Sick Leave: 81 hours per year with the employee having the option to accumulate a maximum of 800 hours or receive pay each July for unused sick leave hours accumulated in the preceding fiscal year.
  • Vacation Leave:  88 hours after one year, 128 hours after 5 years, 168 hours after 10 years, and 208 hours after 20 years of service.
  • Tuition Reimbursement:  Up to the effective IRS amount in a given year ($5,250 in 2017) for the costs of tuition, books, and parking at the California State University rate.
  • Retirement: Employees are covered under the State of California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS).  Employees hired after June 30, 2012 who are not “new members” as defined under the Public Employees’ Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) shall receive the CalPERS retirement benefit formula based on 2% at age 60 and pay the full 7% employee portion.  Employees hired on or after January 1, 2013 who are defined as “new members” under PEPRA shall receive the CalPERS retirement benefit formula of 2% at 62 and pay the full 6.25% employee portion.

Optional Programs Available at Employees’ Expense

  • Additional Life & AD&D Insurance for employee and dependents through Lincoln National Life Insurance Company.
  • Deferred Compensation available through Empower.
  • CalPERS Long Term Care (Available during designated open enrollment period).
  • Life, cancer, accident, hospital and short-term disability insurance through American Fidelity Assurance Company.

Hourly Employee Benefits  

    • Medical Health Benefits*: City contribution toward medical health benefit costs are subject to change.
    • Retirement: All employees working in a part-time, seasonal, or a temporary capacity are covered by the Nationwide 401(a) Plan.  The City contributes 3.75%  of an employee’s salary, with the employee contributing an equal 3.75%.
    • Holidays*:  Five (5) paid holidays per year for all Part-Time represented employees.  
    • Leave Time*: Employees covered by the Part-Time MOU shall accrue at the rate of six (6) minutes per hour worked.
    • Life & AD&D Insurance for employee and dependents at employees expense.
