Adaptive Recreation

Adaptive dance events are only for participants with physical/intellectual disabilities and participants must be supervised by a parent, guardian or a caretaker. Group homes are encouraged to participate. An attendant or program aide must remain to assist as needed.

Aquatics

*****The Smith Park Aquatic will remain closed for the duration of the 2021 Aquatic Season to undergo maintenance.  We’ll see you in 2022******

The Aquatics Division operates and maintains the Olympic-size pool at Smith Park that measures 50 meters by 25 yards. The pool operates from June – August to offer swim lessons, lap and recreational swimming, aqua aerobics, diving instruction, water polo, poolside special events, and a Junior Lifeguard program. The Aquatics Division also hosts a number of end of the year swim parties for schools and community groups.

Community Gardens

The Pico Rivera Community Gardens was established to promote healthy living and provide residents who do not have garden space with the opportunity to grow produce for personal use. The Community Gardens is comprised of 8.5′ x 22′ plots and 18’ x 22’ plots rented annually and is available for use by residents and non-residents. 

ALERT: The City of Pico Rivera is currently seeking a volunteer to help in the upkeep of weeds and other functions in the Community Gardens.

About the Golf Club

The Pico Rivera Golf Club is a 9-hole executive course designed by William F. Bell and built in 1968 on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers land. The course is owned by the City of Pico Rivera. The lighted course plays to a par 29, measures 1504 yards, features a covered driving range, two putting greens, pro shop, Café and banquet facilities.

Special Events

The Department of Parks and Recreation hosts annual community events including a weekly Wednesday Farmers Market, Easter Eggstravaganza, Summer Meal Program (SFSP), Fireworks Spectacular, Summer Street Fest (SSF), Dive-In Movies, Halloween Spooktacular, and Tree Lighting Festival. This division also supports non-departmental organizations with annual events such as the National Day of Prayer, retail store grand openings, and ribbon cutting ceremonies. The special events division oversees community volunteers and community partners such as sponsors.

Sports

The Department of Parks and Recreation strives to provide quality recreational opportunities to our residents through various traditional and nontraditional sports programs for youth and adults.  The sports division also encompasses the Community Sport Organizations that are recognized by the Pico Rivera City Council, as well as our Coaches Advisory Council that assists the youth basketball league coordinator in providing a safe and fun atmosphere for our athletes.

Teens

The Pico Rivera Youth Center offers drop-in recreational activities and amenities such as: basketball, billiards, Xbox 360, PS2, foosball tables, Nintendo Wii, computer use, karaoke, and more. The PRYC also sponsors movie nights, volunteer opportunities, teen workshops, field trips, sports and outdoor events.

The Youth Center also offers a variety of services including:

The Pico Rivera Youth Center gladly accepts donations of all sorts from local merchants. Items such as food coupons from restaurants and gift certificates from stores are used at our special events. City excursions will begin in November with limited capacity for each excursion. Online registration will be accepted at picoriveraca.myrec.com. A MyRec account is required for all online Recreation transactions. In person registrations are NOT taken at this time as all park community centers and the Parks and Recreation Office remain closed to the public.
